We all like specific types of music and different music inspires different things.
I’ll be frank, I mostly listen to video game soundtracks while writing – but that doesn’t mean music with lyrics can’t inspire stories or ideas. While I write with (mostly) lyric-less music, I do enjoy a lot of music with lyrics and by listening to songs, ideas tend to spark in my mind. My current side-project, for example, was in part inspired by the song Haunted by the band Disturbed.
However, while writing Tales of The Forbidden, I tend to listen to the Persona 3 soundtrack. Here’s one of the songs from that soundtrack that manages to inspire various things. I could put it on repeat for hours. But don’t get me wrong: I love the entire soundtrack.
Which song inspires you the most? Do you work best with or without music? Let me know in the comments!

I choose songs from my most emotional times, times when I was a full of energy teenager. They stir emotions easily and drive me to remember how it feels to be enthused about the journey to come, not having a clue what life would offer me.

I’ve never thought about that, but that actually makes a lot of sense! Remembering your own emotions is a great way to keep going.

Most of my music has nostalgia or memories attached to it. My iTunes library is 95% videogame music, so when I write, I’m usually listening to a mix of soundtracks from various jRPGs (Final Fantasy 7-9, TWEWY, Kingdom Hearts), Assassin’s Creed 2, and miscellaneous. Most of it lacks lyrics as well, and half of those with voices are in Japanese, but it works. It’s calming, inspirational, and generally upbeat.

Final Fantasy 9 and Kingdom Hearts; I listen to those, as well.
Yeah. Video game music is made with the setting in mind, so it’s easy to find a song to find any situation.
