A Favorite Character: Do you have one?

Of course you do.

It’s impossible to not have a character you feel more attached to than others; one who draws you in and makes you feel like you’ve entered a different world. A character you’d like to have as your friend, or just to see for real once. One time. Just to suppress the roars of distress within you – crying out at the fact that, really, you can’t and won’t ever see that character in the flesh.

Perhaps it’s a character from a movie. Consider yourself lucky; you got the chance to see the character that caught your interest.

Thank you again, ~EnshroudedVixen on deviantArt.

Maybe it’s a character from a book. In this case, you’re not as lucky. You have descriptions and with that, a visual forms in your mind. That’s what the person looks like. If it’s a character you created for a story, it’s more detailed; you know more intimate information about them.

For me, my favorite character in my novel is Damien.

I am shamelessly reusing this drawing.

I could not resist.

While he is the main character, the series focuses on events that happen around him. He is one of my most in-depth characters, and I have spent three years working on the series he’s in – with him haunting my mind for at least two years before I started.

I can only hope readers will find him as intriguing as I do.

But that, my friends, is a story for another day.

Who is/are your favorite character(s) in movies, televisions or novels – both other’s and your own? What makes them so special?

  1. Damien is definitely an interesting character from what you’ve told me. Honestly, I think all novels have that one character (or more) that I latch on to like a rabid squirrel. In the recent book I read, A Game of Thrones, it was Daenerys. In my own Dominant Race storyline, it’s Lilia. In the old Anne McCaffrey books I loved, it was Lessa and F’lar. Then Menolly. So yeah. Always have to have favorite characters. Always, always.

    • I’m glad you think so, and hope that will continue when you have the chance to read about him. πŸ™‚
I think that in almost everything, there’s that one character that will catch your eye – one that strays from the norm of the novel or series.

  2. Now that you ask, I think I am drawn to so many characters, I cant just pin down to one 😦 but you got me thinking about it.. But i think they are equally divided between novels and movies… By the way.. nice post πŸ™‚

  3. I have so many favourites, in both my own work and in others’. I do get really attached to my main characters, as they occupy the most of my mind and I get to know them far better than the others. In a number of stories I’ve read, secondary characters have become my favourite in the piece. Sometimes they are just more intriguing than the one we’re following!

  4. Exactly! It doesn’t have to be the main character(s). It can be random characters you only see once or twice, who are more intriguing than the protagonists.

  5. I tend to like characters whom I can relate to and who I think will make a good friend if they were real. My favourite character usually changes with every book.

Let me know what you think!
